An important pioneer in understanding the physiological processes of singing, he invented the laryngoscope in 1854 (without apparently anticipating its value to medicine). His students and disciples included Jenny Lind, Christina Nilsson, Henry Wood, Mathilde Marchesi, and many other opera and stage stars of the late-nineteenth century.  \u003c\/div\u003e\u003cdiv style=\"\"\u003e\u003cbr style=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\u003cdiv style=\"\"\u003eGarcia's 1840 treatise \u003ci style=\"\"\u003eL'Art du Chant \u003c\/i\u003eremains an important source for vocal pedagogy. Notable for its lengthy and comprehensive treatment of the details of singing technique, it includes information on vocal ranges, breathing, the physiological processes of singing (a topic which was relatively new), and ornamentation.
