After some hesitation, they acquired the rights to Ferenc Molnár's play \u003ci\u003eLiliom\u003c\/i\u003e, about a Budapest carousel barker, and transplanted the setting to coastal Maine, adding a more hopeful ending. The musical required considerable modification during out-of-town tryouts, but once it opened on Broadway on April 19, 1945, it was an immediate hit with both critics and audiences. \u003ci\u003eCarousel\u003c\/i\u003e initially ran for 890 performances and duplicated its success in the West End in 1950.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv style=\"\"\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv style=\"\"\u003ePublisher Angus Cameron (1908–2002) had his first success with \u003ci\u003eThe Joy of Cooking \u003c\/i\u003ein 1936, and later promoted J.
