Signed double weight photograph of the Russian pianist and teacher, shown in a studio portrait by A. Schupack of Chicago, who has signed at the lower right and dated March 3, 1931. Some light smudges, edge and surface wear; overall very good. 8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.5 cm). Uncommon. 

Born in Kharkiv (Ukraine), Tarnowsky studied with Anna Yesipova at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. After a successful touring career and teaching positions in Odessa and Kiev, where he taught Vladimir Horowitz, he emigrated to the United States in 1938.
