Collection of six original linoleum cut prints of early-twentieth-century theatrical personalities by the American artist and caricaturist Alfred Frueh. Achieved in Frueh's minimal, yet very humorous style, the prints depict Ethel Barrymore, Maude Adams (in a black and green print), George M. Cohan, Marie Dressler (shown as a gorilla-like figure), Raymond Hitchcock (black and yellow print), and George Arliss. Most of the prints appear to be as published in Frueh's 1922 folio Stage Folk. Printed on thin paper, attached to same-sized mounts, with overall toning and some light edge wear but otherwise in fine condition. Sized 6.5 x 10 inches (Barrymore), 8.25 x 12 inches (Adams, Cohan), 10.5 x 14.5 inches (Dressler), and 9.5 x 15 inches (Hitchcock, Arliss.)

American artist Alfred Frueh studied in Paris in the early twentieth century, where he was acquainted with artists such as Braque and Matisse. As a caricaturist, he had drawings published regularly in the New Yorker from the 1920's to the 1960's. His folio Stage Folk (1922) contained 41 caricatures of theatrical personalities, created between 1907 and 1922.
