Edward German was widely considered the successor to Arthur Sullivan as a composer of operettas; Alexander Mackenzie was best-known for his oratorios and instrumental music, as well as as the director of the Royal Academy of Music; Herman Finck was principal conductor at the Queen's Theatre, Drury Lane, as well as a prolific composer; and John Mackenzie-Rogan was a prominent military band conductor. The four were the sole members of the \"A.C.M. Club,\" named after Alexander Mackenzie, which was formed to lunch on their birthdays.
