Sevcik, Otakar (1852–1934). Autograph Visiting Card with New Year's Wishes. Original visiting card with an autograph New Year's wish from the hugely influential Bohemian violinist and pedagogue. On a card printed with his name and position at the Viennese K. K. Akademie für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, he has penned (translated from the German): "with hearty good wishes for the New Year." Together with the original envelope addressed to a Frau Doktor Rozgonyi and postmarked January 1910. Envelope slightly smudged and torn; visiting card in very fine condition, 4 x 2.5 inches (10.4 x 6.3 cm).

An important soloist and an ensemble player, Sevcik is chiefly remembered as the teacher of some of the greatest 20th century violinists including Jan Kubelík, Jaroslav Kocián, Efrem Zimbalist, Juan Manén, Marie Hall, Victor Kolar and Erika Morini. His violin studies and violin methods were published in several books and are still important and widely used as fundamental teaching tools.
