Based on the short story \u003ci style=\"\"\u003eUnder the Jaguar Sun\u003c\/i\u003e by Italo Calvino, it also incorporates excerpts from Friedrich Einsiedel's 1778 libretto for an opera based on Shakespeare's \u003ci style=\"\"\u003eThe Tempest. \u003c\/i\u003eBerio himself described the work as an \u003ci\u003eazione musicale\u003c\/i\u003e (musical action) rather than an opera.
