Rachmaninoff, Sergei. (1873–1943). Signed Mishkin Photograph to the US Director of Breitkopf & Haertel. Original doubleweight Mishkin bust portrait photograph of the important composer/pianist, signed and inscribed to Paul Heinecke, Director in New York of the important music publishing house Breitkopf & Haertel, and dated New York, May 18 1920. End of signature and inscription over a dark area of the image, light chipping along the left edge and upper right corner, small tear at the head and a few small surface scratches, else fine. 7.6 x 9.5 inches; 19.5 x 24 cm.

In 1920, Rachmaninoff signed a recording contract with the Victor Talking Machine Company which earned him some much-needed income. He made his first recordings for them in New York in the month of the present inscription (May, 1920), including his two most popular Preludes (after the C-sharp minor), those in G minor and G major, together with Tchaikovsky's Troika from The Months.
