St. James, Margo. (b. 1937). 1st National Hookers Convention: Our Convention is Different / We Want Everybody to Come - ORIGINAL 1974 POSTER. N.p. [San Francisco]: Margo St. James. [1974]. Graphically striking and frankly graphic original poster representing the first national convention ever staged by members of the world's oldest profession. 15 x 23 inches. Orange card stock with purple print and a sexual illustration.  Small tear to right middle edge (not affecting text), pinholes and minor water stains, as this poster was taken from a telephone pole in San Francisco where the convention was held.

"For the press, it was an orgy. They filmed, photographed, and interviewed anyone who was generous with her eye shadow. For the chairmadame of the night, Margo St. James [whose name appears at the poster's lower left], it was an evening of theatrics - a chance to have some fun and grab some press. 'I always say, put a hooker up in front and people will be there,' she says." (http://archives.chicagotribune.com/1974/07/10/page/1/article/worlds-oldest-profession-has-the-night-off)

Margo St. James is an American self-described prostitute and sex-positive feminist, who founded the organization COYOTE (Call Off Your Old Tired Ethics), and which advocates decriminalization of prostitution.
