Fauré, Gabriel. (1845-1924). Autograph Letter to Jacques Durand. Autograph letter from the important and prolific French composer to music publisher and composer Jacques Durand, sending good wishes to Durand's wife and mentioning changes to his piano trio (1922-23) made by Alfred Cortot. Dated September 28, 1923. Translated from the French, in part: "Dear friend, Here I am in Paris, but very tired by the journey back. Hence, I postpone the pleasure of seeing you and hearing the latest news of Bel Etat until the first days of next week. Paul Dukas told me last night that it is now Mrs. Jacques Durand's health that is not so good. I hope she will recover very soon, and send all my regards to Jacques. Could you please send him my best wishes? As to the small pianistic changes Cortot made to the trio, I will very soon know the address in England where he is going to stay for two months, and you will be able to send him a copy [...] Do not bother to send me this month's payment here. I will take it at your office." 2 pp. Some light wear to the edges and one small loss; overall in very good condition. 5.25 x 8 inches (13.3 x 20.8 cm).
Jacques Durand (1865–1928) took over the pre-eminent publishing house of his father, Auguste Durand, in 1891. At his mansion, Bel Etat, he welcomed many of the important composers of the day, including Fauré, Debussy, Ravel, and Dukas.
