Six works are by Johann \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003eGabrielsky [Gabrielski], \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003eGerman flautist and composer, a contemporary of Boehm, Furstenau and Reicha, who performed in the theater orchestra of Stettin and as a royal chamber musician in Berlin. Five works are by the French flautist \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003eBenoit Tranquille \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003eBerbiguier,\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e composer of many works for flute including several instructional works, and one work is by the German flautist and composer Anton Bernhard \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003eFürstenau.\u003c\/span\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\u003cdiv style=\"\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e\u003cbr style=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\u003cdiv style=\"\"\u003e\n\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e\"\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003eBerbiguier strongly advocated a larger flute sound than was usual in France. The perfection of his technique was admired, as was the sweetness of his tone, although at least one of his pupils regarded it as rather coarse. His adherence to the Bourbons led him to flee Paris during the Revolution of 1830 and he settled in Pontlevoy, remaining there until his death. His frequent concert tours with his father took him to Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Copenhagen and Prague, where he met Carl Maria von Weber in 1815...The year after his father's death he moved to Dresden, where he became first flautist under Weber's direction. He continued to make numerous concert tours, and in 1826 he accompanied Weber to Paris and London... \u003cspan style=\"\"\u003eFétis and others praised\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"hit highlight\" style=\"\"\u003eFürstenau\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e's playing for its dexterity and expressiveness; only in England did he have a poor reception, his execution being praised but his tone criticized as inferior to that of Nicholson. He continued to play on the old-fashioned flute; in his\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem style=\"\"\u003eKunst des Flöten-Spiels\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003eop.138 (Leipzig, 1909), he voiced his opposition to the new flute and its monotonous sound. A prolific composer for the flute, he wrote variations and rondos on popular opera themes by Weber, Meyerbeer, Halévy, Bellini and others. His concertos exhibit virtuoso writing and an operatic influence in their themes and style; other works for flute, however, show the influence of Weber.\" (Gaynor G.
