His first two attempts in the genre, \u003ci\u003eGuntram \u003c\/i\u003e(1894) and \u003ci\u003eFeuersnot \u003c\/i\u003e(1901), were controversial works: \u003ci\u003eFeuersnot \u003c\/i\u003ewas considered obscene by some critics. In 1905, Strauss produced \u003ci\u003eSalome\u003c\/i\u003e, modernist opera based on the play by Oscar Wilde, which produced a passionate reaction from audiences. The premiere was a major success, with the artists taking more than 38 curtain calls. Strauss's next operas were \u003ci\u003eElektra \u003c\/i\u003e(1909), and \u003ci\u003eDer Rosenkavalier \u003c\/i\u003e(1911), in which he collaborated with the poet and novelist Hugo van Hofmannsthal. Strauss continued to produce operas at regular intervals until 1942. With Hofmannsthal he created \u003ci\u003eAriadne auf Naxos\u003c\/i\u003e (1912), \u003ci\u003eDie Frau ohne Schatten\u003c\/i\u003e (1919), \u003ci\u003eDie ägyptische Helena\u003c\/i\u003e (1928), and \u003ci\u003eArabella\u003c\/i\u003e (1933). For \u003ci\u003eIntermezzo \u003c\/i\u003e(1924) Strauss provided his own libretto. \u003ci\u003eDie schweigsame Frau\u003c\/i\u003e (1935) was composed with Stefan Zweig as librettist; \u003ci\u003eFriedenstag \u003c\/i\u003e(1935–6) and \u003ci\u003eDaphne \u003c\/i\u003e(1937) both had a libretto by Joseph Gregor and Stefan Zweig; and \u003ci\u003eDie Liebe der Danae\u003c\/i\u003e (1940) was with Joseph Gregor. \u003c\/div\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\u003cdiv style=\"\"\u003e\u003cbr style=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\u003cdiv style=\"\"\u003e\u003cbr style=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e","brand":"Schubertiade Music and Arts","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46093533479071,"sku":"13907","price":1200.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0512\/4826\/7423\/files\/Strauss_Richard_Librettos_13907.jpg?v=1722188659","url":"https:\/\/www.schubertiademusic.com\/products\/13907-strauss-richard-libretto-collection","provider":"Schubertiade Music and Arts","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
