His \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003eprints and drawings, like his paintings, were esteemed by connoisseurs and \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003ecopied by other artists. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003eAlthough Lievens sought to become a painter of biblical and allegorical \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003escenes, his gift for painting faces also won him ardent admiration. Constan\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003etijn Huygens — secretary to the Prince of Orange, as well as poet, writer, and\u003c\/span\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cdiv style=\"\"\u003e\n\u003cnobr style=\"\"\u003eintellectual — was one of the most influential Dutch patrons of art. After his \u003c\/nobr\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003einitial visit to Lievens’ studio in 1628, Huygens wrote that the artist “wreaks \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003emiracles” with the human countenance and admired \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003eLievens’ extraordinary ability to evoke the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003eessence of a person through features alone\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e.
