Autograph letter from the great Hungarian violinist, dedicatee of the Brahms Concerto and many other works, addressed to a "Herr Geheimrath" (privy councilor), probably the Frankfurt banker Ladenburg, and dated January 6 [1879?]. Translated from the German: "The time of my Frankfurt concert draws near, and your old friend and guest gets in touch again. Can he take up his quarters, or do you have another, dearer visitor? I was very pleased about the news of your son's engagement, and congratulate him heartily. Frau Schumann wants to discuss possible plans for me with you, quartets at your house, etc." 1 p. of a bifolium with one crease and a small tape reinforcement inside; overall in fine condition. 4.5 x 7 inches (11.5 x 17.9 cm).
