[Dervishes]. Original Constantinople CDV Photograph of Dervishes. A rare and very interesting carte de visite photograph of four dervishes, photographed by Basile Kargopoulo of Constantinople and dated on the verso, 1880. Members of a Muslim religious order founded in the 12th century, here while one of the men plays a flute, another stands with his arms flung wide, as if in the midst of the sort of whirling dance ritual for which the group is best known. On the original photographer's mount with toning and some small spots and scratches, but overall in fine condition. 4 x 2.5 inches (10.5 x 6.4 cm).
