AMQS from the son of the important Italian composer Amilcare Ponchielli (teacher of Puccini and Mascagni at the Milano Conservatory, whose "La Gioconda" remains a favorite) and the soprano Teresina Brambilla, who himself was a music critic and minor composer. On a postcard of Pompeii, he has penned three measures in Adagio, identified as from his Quartetto. He has signed and dated: December 16, 1904. On the verso, the postcard is addressed to the Argentinian collector Ramona Imaz Otaño, with the original Italian stamp and postmark. Significant foxing on the verso and a slight crease and smudge on the recto; overall in fine condition. 5.5 x 3.5 inches (13.7 x 8.8 cm).
