Four years later, Monteux was appointed conductor of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes in 1911 and thereby conducted the premieres of Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring), and Chant du Rossignol (The Nightingale), as well as Petrushka, Daphis et Chloe and Jeux. Between 1919 - 1924, he was conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and from 1936 - 1952, he was conductor of the San Francisco Symphony.
