Renaud, Maurice. (1860-1933). Interesting Autograph Letter. From the great French baritone, widely considered to be the finest of the generation after Lassalle and Maurel. Creator of several Reyer and Massenet roles, he had an enormous repetoire that included Mozart, Verdi, Berlioz, Wagner, Saint-Saens, Massenet etc. and he left a number of fine recordings. He was a regular at the Opera-Comique and also performed at Covent Garden and for several years at the Manhattan Opera and the Metropolitan.

The present letter, addressed to the author Manoël de Granfort, details the demands of Renaud's busy performance schedule, saying that he performed Lohengrin the night before and tomorrow will sing Sigurd (a role he created) and that he must stay relaxed and siled during this day in between.

"...je chante demain Sigurd et je me suis offert hier Lohengrin, entre ces deux soirée très dures je vous assure qu'il est bon de rester bien tranquille et bien silencieux ...........avec tout cela nous sommes obligé de renoncer à la bonne soirée que nous devions passer ensemble , nous aurions fait un nain jaune énorme ... " 1 page, in very fine condition. Sold together with a postcard photograph of Renaud in the role of Don Juan.
