[Musical Iconography]. 18th Century Bone Carving of St. Cecilia.
Rare and unusual anonymous sculpture carved from a single piece of unidentified bone and depicting the crowing of St. Cecilia, patron saint of music. Ca. 18th century or earlier and in very fine condition, with remnants of an wax seal to rear. 9.6 cm tall with base measuring 5.5 x 5.8 cm and weighing 175 gr.

Saint Cecilia is depicted holding a lyre in front of an alter, with a stack of books and scrolls (possibly music) to her left and with a floating putto crowning her as rays of grace descend from on high. The detailed rendition of the Saint's gown is particularly notable.
