Quiroga, Manuel. (1892 - 1961). Autograph Musical Quotation. A very scarce AMQS from the renowned Spanish violinist who has penned a quotation of the violin's open strings, signed and dated New York, 1928 on a card measuring 11 x 7 cm. Small crease lower left corner, else fine.
Known as "Sarasate's spiritual heir," dedicatee of works by Enrique Granados and Eugene Ysaye (the 6th of the Solo Sonatas), Quiroga himself also composed violin concertos, and several shorter pieces. His career was tragically cut short when he was hit by a truck while crossing a New York street in 1937. He survived, but with progressive loss of mobility and feeling in his arm, after which he devoted himself to his other talent: oil painting, producing many works of art and caricatures of his musical friends until Parkinson's disease deprived him of this outlet, too. Autograph material of any kind is very uncommon.
