Herbert, Victor. (1859-1924). Signed Photograph with AMQS inscribed to Tennis Legend Bill Tilden. Signed 10 x 12 inch photograph of the American cellist, conductor and composer. Inscribed with an AMQS "Natoma" to the tennis great Bill Tilden, "Wm. T. Tilden - with best wishes from Victor Herbert / and - 'May the most you wish for be the least you get!'" In very unfortunate condition, with a tear extending into the image, another tear repaired with tape at the right, significant losses along the lower blank edge and along the right side affecting the end of the signature and the area in which Herbert has dated the photo. Larger tears have been repaired with archival tape on the verso so the photograph is in moderately stable condition, but should probably be framed to insure future safety.

William Tatem Tilden II (1893 - 1953) is generally considered one fo the greatest tennis players of all time. World No. 1 player for seven years, he won 14 Major singles titles including 10 Grand Slams, 1 World Hard Court Championships and 3 Pro Slams. He also won a record 7 US Open titles and dominated the world of international tennis in the first half of the 1920s. During his 18-year amateur period of 1912–30, he won 138 of 192 tournaments and owns a number of all-time tennis achievements.
