Tibbett, Lawrence. (1896-1960) . The Metropolitan Opera Association Testimonial Scroll to Lawrence Tibbett.

Hand calligraphied presentation to the American baritone by The Metropolitan Opera Association.  Pen, ink, brush, paint, gold leaf on vellum.  The scroll reads:  "The American Metropolitan Opera Association desires to record it’s appreciation of A Quarter Century of Service on the part of a distinguished American baritone LAWRENCE TIBBETT who, from his debut as Lovitzky in Boris Godunoff on November 24, 1923, rose steadily in artistic stature to leadership on the operatic stage which was the richer for his noble voice and vital personality.  In the history of opera in America an unforgettable place has been created by his Emperor Jones – a breathtaking and dramatic figure, Falstaff – a lovable and hilarious rascal, Simon Boccanegra – a majestic and benign sovereign, Rigoletto –  in turn cynical and tender. Whether assuming the personality of villain or saint, parent, monarch, or clown, or whether acting as a leader among his colleagues, LAWRENCE TIBBETT has won their admiration."  Measures 14 x 9.75 inches.  In fine condition.
