Original 1907 Recital Program

Rare original program from a performance of the Russian composer and pianist at Mendelssohn Hall (NY) in 1907. The program consisted entirely of Scriabine's own compositions. Both pages of the program have been neatly trimmed and mounted to a page together with an inset trimmed portrait. The page verso includes similar program clippings from an Ossip Gabrilowitsch recital at the same location the following month. 28 x 19 cm overall.

Fine CDV photograph by Fritz Luckhardt of Vienna of the great virtuoso violinist. He was Paganini's only pupil and introduced Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in England in 1827 at age 12. Later, he collaborated with Liszt and composed virtuoso arrangements of many works. 6.25 x 10.5 cm.

Signed photograph from the American soprano, a popular star at the Metropolitan who also sang the world premiere in 1948 of Samuel Barber's Knoxville, Summer of 1915, a work which she commissioned. Glossy sepia Bruno of Hollywood photograph of Steber as Madam Butterfly, boldly signed in red ink "Merry Christmas 1951 / Eleanor Steber." Fine.

1893 "Rudolfsheimer Bürgerball" Dance Booklet

An original small "Tanz-Ordnung" booklet, bound in silk and with a tiny pencil held at the edge, the pages printed in gilt with the evening's dances to be performaed at Karl Schwender's casino in the suburb of Rudolfsheim (today, the 15th District of Vienna). The booklet contained in an ornate brass box with tassle, chain and hook for affixing it to one's dance-hall finery. The evening's waltzes were primarily by Strauss and Ziehrer. The booklet measuring 4.5 x 4.5 cm, the case slightly larger. A rare survival in amazing condition!

Superb AMQS, two instantly identifiable measures from "Petrouchka" accomplished in blue ink, signed and dated 1954. The quote measuring 13.5 x 11 cm, nicely matted with a postcard photograph and measuring 21 x 29.5 cm overall. A fine quotation from one of the composer’s most popular and enduring works!

1874 Vanity Fair Portrait

A spirited portrait of the British composer best known for his collaborations on more than a dozen classic comic operas with librettist W. S. Gilbert. A fine chromo-lithograph caricature published in the English weekly magazine Vanity Fair on March 14, 1874. The portrait is by Carlo Pellegrini, known as "Ape," one of the most famous of the outstanding caricaturists who published in the magazine. In excellent condition, 15 x 10.5 inches. New acid-free matt and backing; overall matt size 12 1/2" x 17 3/4"
