Interesting Letter to Arthur Kaufmann

A rare signed letter from the prolific director of "Metropolis," "M," etc., best known for his cinematic visions of a world largely populated by criminals, psychopaths, prostitutes, and other maladjusted personalities. Scarce TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, February 13, 1939. Addressed to Arthur Kaufmann (1888 - 1971) the influential avante-garde German painter, who was a key figure in the Post-Expressionist and New Objectivity art movements. Jewish in origin, Kaufmann was labeled "non-Aryan" by the Nazis in 1933 and relocated to the United States, embarking upon a career as a celebrated portrait painter. He specialized in depictions of well-known Jewish men, including such diverse luminaries as Hollywood actor Edward G. Robinson, physicist Albert Einstein, and composer and painter George Gershwin (whose affidavit was responsible for Kaufmann's safe departure from Germany). His portrait of Gershwin is now held by the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian Institution. Read More...

Photograph of her Hands

Original photograph of the hands of the American actress who enjoyed great success as a popular screen comedienne in the 1930s and who became Mrs. Clark Gable in 1939. On January 16, 1942, the plane in which Lombard was traveling en route to a war bond rally crashed into Mount Potosi near Las Vegas, killing all 22 aboard.

A remarkable set of three early signed television contracts from the celebrated American actor, film director, entrepreneur, humanitarian, professional racing driver and auto racing enthusiast. 3 pp, Theatre Guild Television Agreement, Standard AFTRA Engagement Contract, and letter instructing payment to be sent to his agent. March 29, 1954 (2) and April 7, 1954 for his appearance as "Tom Corey in LAPHAMS OF BOSTON" on April 27th for which he will be paid $400.00. Each contract boldly signed "Paul Newman" in black ink, with Newman adding his telephone number and social security number below his signature on the AFTRA contract. Beautiful glossy 9 x 7.5 inch photograph of Tate and co-star Barbara Parkins in a scene from 1967 cult-classic "Valley of the Dolls," signed and inscribed in fountain pen “For Piere, Warmest Wishes, Sharon Tate” and "To Peter, Barbara Parkins."
