The Italian cellist, composer, and conductor responds to a query about his favorite composer, responding "L'autore preferito? Bach / Enrico Mainardi. 1927." A prodigy, he later formed a well know trio with Edwin Fischer and George Kelenkanmpff (later replaced by Wolfgang Schneiderhahn), and another trio with the pianist Guido Agosti and the flutist Severino Gazzellon. AMQS on an off-white 3.5 x 5.5 photo of the composer, which also bears a pre-printed signature and musical quote. Massenet pens two bars of music from ‘Werther,’ inscribing above, in French, “In respectful hommage to Mlle G. Marre,” and signed, “certified correct copy! J. Massenet.”
Massenet's Werther is thrilling, tuneful, and one of the saddest operas ever composed — it ends with a suicide on Christmas Eve. It was first performed in Vienna, on February 16, 1892.
Large poster for Christmas Night, 1969, at the Eglise de la Trinité in Paris. A striking poster, printed in black on bright yellow paper, 55 x 40 cm (approx. 24 x 16 inches). Announcing a recital by MESSIAEN at 11.30 p.m. to precede Midnight Mass, at which the Maitrise of the ORTF will sing a Mass by Delibes. The poster has been folded neatly so there are crease marks, but these are not obtrusive and would disappear if the poster was framed. Otherwise the poster is in wonderful condition, with no tears or other wear.

Autograph musical quotation, undoubtedly the most famous music ever penned by the German composer - the iconic opening measures of the chorus "O Fortuna," from his "Carmina Burana." On an index card (12.5 x 8 cm), the first four chords, written out on a single staff, inscribed with a large "O" over the first chord, then continuing below "Fortuna - / Velut luna -" and "Carmina Burana," signed "Carl Orff" on the verso. Accomplished late in life by the composer, in very bold black ink and in very fine condition.
