Engraved oval-shaped center section of a larger broadside (trimmed), a calligraphic portrait memorial of Lincoln composed with the text of his Emancipation Proclamation drawn to form his likeness.13 x 9-1/2 inches, in an antique mahogany frame under early thin glass, 12 ¾” by 16". Two shrinkage cracks to the mahogany matting around the broadside, a few small spots of foxing, paper backing to frame with notations from a recent owner and with tears, overall very good. Two TLS and one ALS to the poet and Nazi apologist, including one (April 15, 1932) from the American steel magnate Charles M. Schwab, declining to ask any questions of Mr. [Leon] Trotsky, the Marxist revolutionary, founder and leader of the Red Army. Another (October 26, 1938), from the controversial Roman Catholic priest Charles Couglin, stating that he was "very anxious to hear the news you have gleaned from abroad." Coughlin, one of the first political leaders to use radio to reach a mass audience -up to thirty million listeners tuned to his weekly broadcasts during the 1930s - was forced off the air in 1939 after he used his radio program to issue antisemitic commentary and to support some of the policies of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. ALS signed “Red Beans & Ricely, Louis Armstrong,” one page, 5.5 x 8.5, May 29, 1949. Letter to Mr. John B. Elwood. In full: “‘Man,—I’ve just finished reading your script concerning the Crosby Cavalcade—I’m ‘tellin’ yooo’ ‘you really ‘came on.’ You sure ought to see that my boy—‘Pappa Bing’ Crosby get one of these scripts, ‘That would really ‘gas him no end. And I wanna thank ‘ya too.” Overall writing somewhat faded but legible, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Autograph letters from Armstrong are very rare.

1961 Liverpool Jazz Society Concert Handbill

An early Beatles handbill from a 1961 concert at the Liverpool Jazz Society, one of five that The Beatles played there during the month of March 1961. This concert took place on Wednesday, March 15, where The Beatles took the stage at 2 p.m. and alternated sets with Gerry and the Pacemakers and Rory Storm and the Wild Ones for the next five hours. At this time, The Beatles were also performing at The Cavern Club and other clubs in and around Liverpool as well as traveling to perform in Hamburg, Germany. 7.25 x 5.25 inches.

Unusual original 1970 press photograph of the noted American singer, best remembered as Mama Cass of the pop quartet "The Mamas & the Papas, " shown here on a snowmobile at Lake Tahoe. Cass tragically died in 1974 of a heart attack in London after two weeks of sold-out performances at the Palladium. 8 x 10 inches. Fine.

Bold autograph signature "Ella Fitzgerald" on an early halftone photograph measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, obtained after the "Jazz Jamboree" in the Palmengarten, Frankfurt on September 12, 1949. Sold together with the original program and a ticket from the performance, the ticket mounted to the lower border edge of the photogaph. Fine.

Overdue Bar Tab Invoice from "The Scene"

Rare unsigned October 31, 1969 invoice addressed from Steve Paul's 'The Scene' club to the singer, songwriter, and guitarist widely considered to be one of the most influential electric guitarists in rock music history. 1 page, on The Scene letterhead, addressed to Mr. Jimi Hendrix c/o Jeffries and Chandler, the invoice for $44.25 states unequivocally "The Scene needs the money badly. Your beverage tab is Past Due." Handling creases along lower edge, in fine condition and from the estate of Steve Paul.

Uncommon vintage 8 x 10 glossy photograph of Holiday, boldly signed in blue fountain pen ink "For Beabea / Grow beautiful and stay that way always / Billie Holiday." Associated Booking Corp. logo printed in lower right margin. A few creases around the edges and corners, overall fine.



Revered as one of the greatest and most individual vocalists in the history of blues and jazz, Holiday died from cirrhosis of the liver at the age of 44. Signed photographs of her are very scarce.
