Original pencil caricature portrait of the the eminent Russian conductor, composer and double-bass virtuoso. Best remembered for his long tenure as Music Director for the Boston Symphony Orchestra (1924-1949), he founded the Tanglewood Festival and was mentor to many American musicians, including Leonard Bernstein and Aaron Copland.

The figure in the image has in some early scholarship been misidentified as the young Brahms, but not only does it not look like Brahms at the time of his visit to Weimar, but Liszt is dressed as he was while known as the Abbé, evidently mid-1860s at the earliest.
