Vanity Fair Portrait Print, "The Abbé" - FRAMED

A fine chromo-lithograph caricature of "The Abbé," published in the English weekly magazine Vanity Fair on May 15, 1886. The elderly Liszt is shown standing in profile, his hand inside his jacket, and with a kind smile on his face. The portrait is by Sir Leslie Ward, known as "Spy," the most famous of the outstanding caricaturists who published in the magazine. In excellent condition, 15 x 10.5 inches. Framed in tiger eye maple to 17.25 x 11.75 inches.

A check drawn on the National State Bank of Camden, dated Nov. 2, 1887, for thirty dollars and no payee, signed by Whitman pasted inside the front board, in dark green publisher's cloth and gilt lettered spine, rubbed, a bit shaken, boards worn, the check with tears in the center, and a little brown discoloration from the glue.

Autograph letter from the great muse and wife, successively, of Gustav Mahler, Walter Gropius and Franz Werfel. 1 pp. Dated August 22, 1950. Boldly penned in her customary lavender ink. "Liebau, Please send my 2nd letter back to me, so that I can type and return it completed! I will presumably be in NY at the end of Sept. and will bring the scores with me. I embrace you, Alma." Usual creases, in fine condition.

Paull's compositions were of limited interest musically and were intended for the piano sheet music trade. The music was marketed with uniquely colourful front cover illustrations to catch the eye of buyers and has become highly collectable in the modern era.

Uniface bronze portrait medal showing a half-length portrait of the composer in relief. Finely crafted by Tiffany & Co. with music from Don Giovanni (Don Juan) embossed, apparently issued on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the premier of Don Giovanni in 1887. 222 grams, 3.5 inches in diameter. Stamped Tiffany & Co. on the verso.

Titel un s.1 sing dabei neu gestochen...In beiden eingesehenen Exemplaren sind die VN links und der Preis auf der Titelseite kaum erkennbar, möglicherweise getilgt"). A very unusual 1978 photograph of the great dancer together with the leading ballerina of Les Ballets de Muppet. With press clipping and multiple stamps, markings on verso, caption reads: "The World's Greatest Ballet Star, Rudolf Nureyev, Was The Muppet's Guest Star This Weekend -Sam The American Eagle Was Ecstatic That At Last The Show Was Introducing Some Culture And Insists That The Muppets Wear Tails And Ties, But Sam Was In For A Shock-Rudolf Surrendered Himself To Muppet Zaniness And The Result Was His Pas De Beux With A 500~~ Pig To "Swine Lake" An Encounter In The Sauna With Miss Piggy To "Baby It's Cold Out There" And Finally He Dons "Top Hat -White-Tie And Tails" For A Song And Tap Dance To A Famous Number. Photo shows Nureyev And His Partner Prepare For "Swine Lake" During The Muppet Show." 8 x 10 inches, in fine condition.

IRS Opium Order Form

Official Internal Revenue Order Form used by doctors, pharmacists and hospitals for ordering opium and cocaine derivatives by prescription, which were declared taxable controlled substances in 1914. Printed on Internal Revenue security paper ca. 1915, it features an ornate border with a picture of an opium poppy. 8-1/4 x 10-3/4 inches. An unusual stocking-stuffer!

Vintage concert-used tambourine apparently used in performance by the American folk-singing trio whose career lasted nearly 50 years. Signed in black felt tip by Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey, and Mary Travers. Nicely mounted with a vintage promotional photograph and in fine condition.

Autograph Signature with LP

Bold autograph from the great French chanteuse, neatly affixed to the lower left corner of a 10" Columbia LP "Chansons Parisiennes, Volume II." The signature card taped at upper right corner and along the lower edge, with tape stain also along the left edge. Card, measuring 9 x 5 cm, could be easily removed, though we find it attractive in its present relation to the design of the LP cover.

Signers are: Robert Casadesus, Eileen Joyce, Sascha Gorodnitzki, Rudolf Firkusny, Lubka Kolessa, Yolanda Mero, George Thalben-Ball, Myra Hess, and Arthur Rubinstein. In overall fine condition, with some light creasing and toning, and irregular ink adhesion to Hess’s signature, which is also a bit light, but completely legible.
