"Niun Mi Tema" - Autograph Musical Quotation from Otello

A desirable and extremely rare AMQS from the tragic final scene of Verdi's "Otello," "ha! Morta! Morta! Morta" from the "Niun mi tema" aria, penned by the most famous dramatic tenor of the golden age, the creator of the historic role. Penned in a purple-hued ink on a card and signed "Tamagno / 19 - 3 - 95." Nicely double-matted and framed in a gold wooden frame with a modern photograph of Tamagno in costume as Otello. The card measures 10 x 7 cm [4 x 3 in], the full ensemble 28 x 43 cm [11 x 17 inches]. A great rarity - this is the only AMQS of Otello by Tamagno that we have traced on the market in more than 20 years. Read More...

W. Whitney, Tom Karl, W. S. Carlson, Mathilde Phillips (opera singer), Josephine Gallmeyer, Barton Hill and the album owner, Charlie Macauley Pope. With the exception of the Modjeska (signed to verso of Carlson), all signatures penned one per page. All in fine condition, signed in St. Louis, 1882 - 1887. 19 x 12 cm. Leather binding worn, some pages loose or separated from binding, generally fine.

Autograph Letter sending directions for the engraving of "Attila."

8vo. Single sheet folded to approx. 8.25 x 5.25 inches, recto only. N.p., March 26, 1846. An extremely early letter in the hand of the 32 year old composer, in Italian, in brown ink, signed "G. Verdi." A letter to his publisher and engraver, requesting that more attention be paid to the translation and engraving of the text, particularly to the instructions of "piano" and "forte." 1948 TLS Regarding the Resumption of the Bayreuth Festival

In 1948, American author and music collector Kenneth E. Crouch wrote a friendly letter to Wolfgang Wagner, Richard Wagner's grandson, expressing support and hope for a timely resumption of the Bayreuth Festival. Wagner responded with this signed letter and five snapshots of Wahnfried, the family home, one showing the damage to the home that was sustained during the Second World War. Sold together with the 5 original photographs of Wahnfried. Fine.

An uncommon signed detailed AMQS from the composer's 1991 "A Winter's Tale," set to a text by Dylan Thomas. Five measures for piano and soprano, written in pencil, titled, signed and inscribed on a manuscript page measuring 21.5 x 28 cm. A few light creases, else fine.



One America's leading composers, Wuorinen was the youngest composer to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1970.
