Large original 1894 lithograph portrait of the seated violinist holding his violin and bow. 12.5 x 16.5, signed in the lower border in pencil and additionally signed by the artist Lawrence Alma-Tadema. Matted and framed to an overall size of 18.5 x 23.25. In fine condition, with a bit of scattered light foxing.

Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema was a Dutch painter who made his career in England. Admired during his lifetime for his draftsmanship and depictions of Classical antiquity, he also painted portraits, landscapes, and watercolors, as well as etchings. His work largely fell into disrepute after his death and has only recently been reevaluated for its importance within nineteenth-century British art. (9952)
