A setting of a text by Reil for male-voice quartet (with a few bars at the end of the strophe where female chorus joins in) accompanied by a small wind orchestra, composed for the dedication service for the recast bell at Holy Trinity church, where Beethoven's funeral rites and mass were held March, 1827.


One of the rarest Schubert first editions, issued only in a very small edition for charity purposes. Not in the catalogue of the Hirsch collection or in the Lengfeld and Heck Schubert Catalogue. (9781)
