The title page boldly signed and inscribed, "To the Johnsons, Mary Martin" and additionally signed and/or inscribed by: Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, Joshua Logan, Leland Hayward, Ezio Pinza and Myron McCormick. Original full blue cloth, rebacked, toned and with significant areas of staining to boards; new endpapers; title page backed, with slight show-through from a now obscured child inscription on the verso; preliminaries and a few other pages with erased markings, else fine. Fuld p. 511. 

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s "South Pacific" first opened in NYC on April 7, 1949 and closed in 1954 after five years of extraordinary acclaim and countless awards including nine Tonys and a Pulitzer. This is historic copy, signed not only by the composer and lyricist, director and producer, but by Mary Martin, Tony Award winning star and creator of Nellie Forbush (also of Maria in The Sound of Music); Ezio Pinza, great Italian Basso who was creator of the role of Emile De Beque.; Myron McCormick, American actor who was the only cast member to remain with the show for all 1,925 performances, and who won a 1950 Tony Award for his portrayal of sailor Luther Billis.
