Elusive signed photograph of the renowned Russian-born American virtuoso pianist, celebrated for his legendary speed and finger dexterity. On 2 April 1951, Barere suffered a cerebral hemorrhage during a performance of Grieg's Piano Concerto at Carnegie Hall, with Eugene Ormandy conducting the Philadelphia Orchestra. Barere subsequently collapsed and died backstage shortly thereafter.



Original 8 x 10 inch promotional photograph, boldly signed and inscribed in black ink in 1941. Small stains or creases around the margin, mounting remnant on lower verso, else fine. Signed photographs of Barere are highly uncommon. (9635)
