"Ol' Man River"

New York: Harms. 1927. First edition, first issue. Standard format song with lyrics, the rare true first edition with only three songs listed on the cover. Condition is good, slight wear, small right edge tear repaired inside with thin archive tape, light music store stamp lower right. All points as per Fuld p. 412, who locates only 3 copies of the true first edition (LOC, Brown, Fuld).


"Ol' Man River" is a song in the 1927 musical Show Boat that expresses the African American hardship and struggles of the time with the endless, uncaring flow of the Mississippi River; it is sung from the point-of-view of a black dock worker on a showboat and is the most famous song from the show.
