Signed pocket score from the esteemed Soviet composer whose 15 symphonies and large body of chamber and instrumental works occupy a place of central importance in the 20th-century repertoire. New York: International Music Company, 1943. 27 pp. Signed on the title page in blue ink. Rigid green wrappers soiled and split along the spine and stapled together, ownership signature at head of title, some light pencil markings within.

The String Quartet No. 1 in C major (Op. 49) was composed in six weeks during the summer of 1938, the composer writing of this quartet that "I visualized childhood scenes, somewhat naïve and bright moods associated with spring." It was premiered in Leningrad on 10 October 1938 by the Glazunov Quartet. (9093)
