[Passion Story]

18th Century Illustrated Fraktur Passion Story

Striking piece of elaborate German fraktur illuminated folk art, likely of Pennsylvania origin, ca. 1750. The handwritten text illustrates the Passion of Christ, periodically illuminated with vivid hieroglyphic style illustrations. 17.5" x 22.5".

In lamentable condition, the paper is attached loosely to a backing board with double sided tape (old tape which can be removed), paper with areas of damage including staining from old tape on the verso, the right center with some chips and light loss of the illustration. Nevertheless, a highly unusual work in this style and certainly worthy of restoration. (8846)
