Signed Photographs to Wilhelm Kolischer

Early original sepia photograph, boldly signed and inscribed in 1923 in Montevideo, Uruguay to the important pianist and pedagogue, Wilhelm Kolischer: "Al mio amigo Kolischer - de todo corazon - Arturo / Montevideo 1933." In fine condition, measuring 10 x 15 cm. Sold together with a similar format photograph signed and inscribed to Kolischer from Nela Rubinstein in the same year.


The Polish pianist, Wilhelm Kolischer toured South America with Rubinstein performing two piano recitals after the First World War and remained in Uruguay after Rubinstein returned to Europe. He founded an important Conservatory there and remained a close friend of Rubinstein. "When we arrived at that early hour, I spotted at the dock the familiar face of Wilhelm Kolischer, a Polish pianist who had studied with my professer Heinrich Barth and with whom I used to spend whole days in Cracow or Berlin or wherever we met...Kolischer and his friends became my concstant companions and remained so whenever I returned to Montevideo."
