Munch, Charles. (1891–1968)

Personally Used Conducting Baton

One of the personally used conductor's batons (approx. 41 cm), from the longtime Boston Symphony Conductor. Nicely mounted and elaborately framed with a printed portrait to approx. 18 x 22 inches overall. One end of the baton has slipped from it's mount, but the frame could be opened and this easily adjusted.

Charles Münch was Music Director of the Boston Symphony from 1949 to 1962 and Director of the Berkshire Music Festival/Center (Tanglewood) from 1951 to 1962. As BSO conductor, he resumed "the policy initiated there by Monteux in the 1920s of making the Boston SO the chief agent for the introduction of new French music to the American public."
