Spivakovsky, Tossy. (1907–1998)

"Thanks for the sweet music-making in Sibelius" - Autograph Note Signed to the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra

Autograph note from the superlative violinist to the NDR (North German Radio Symphony Orchestra), translated from the German: “To the splendid NDR Symphony with my heartfelt thanks for the sweet music-making in Sibelius – Tossy Spivakovsky 29. X '66" Spivakovsky was famous for his violinistic idiosyncrasies – he famously held the bow above the frog – but left nearly 60 superb recordings covering a wide range of repertoire, including a lithe rendition of the Sibelius concerto with Tanno Hannikainen. He was the first to perform Bartok’s Second Concerto in America (under Rodzinski) and a later performance by him in NY was deemed “first rate” by Bartok himself.  21 x 29 cm. (833)
