Goodman, Benny. (1909–1986) & Bernstein, Leonard. (1918–1990) [Gottlieb, Bill. (1917–2006)]

Original Photograph

Original 8 x 10 inch Bill Gottlieb photograph of the very young Bernstein conducting and Goodman playing the clarinet, probably late 1940s. Some modest rippling along the edges, generally fine condition. Stamped by the photographer on the verso and lower right.

Bill Gottlieb took some of the most celebrated images of jazz musicians in history. According to critic Whitney Balliett, his indelible images "[catch] the precise moment when the musician's face is suffused with effort and emotion and beauty: the music is there." (8221)
