"Fairy Tale" - Autograph Musical Quotation
Uncommon autograph musical quotation from one of the composer's Fairy Tales, Op. 34 #1, signed ("Nicolas Medtner"), consisting of three bars of music marked "Largamente , cantando" on a hand-ruled staff. On an album page (7.6 x 8 cm), London, 16/II/1928. In very fine condition, mounted to a slightly larger sheet.Medtner was one of the very last Romantic composer-pianists, his career being overshadowed by his close contemporaries Skryabin and Rakhmaninov. Like them, he placed the piano at the heart of his creative activity, but unlike them he tempered a Russian spirit with musical thought more firmly based in the Western classical tradition. (8192)
