1958 Sketchbook containing Original Paintings, Pastels and Drawings

Remarkable sketchbook containing 15 fully realized watercolor paintings, pastels and sketches by the pianist, actress and dancer who was the wife of composer, Igor Stravinsky. The album itself and all artworks in very fine condition, signed in ink "Vera Stravinsky" on the cover, adding the date 1958 and "Hamburg, Baden Baden, for rugs." Including landscapes ("Hamburg Oct,""En route home"), abstract works and designs in pencil and pastels for a rug. 27 x 21 cm.



An accomplished pianist and silent film actress, Vera also played the Queen in Diaghilev's 1921 revival of "The Sleeping Beauty" in London and in the mid-1920's, designed and made costumes for some of Diaghilev's other productions. She was also an interesting artist, who exhibited extensively and produced a remarkable series of gouache watercolors, following her husband's death in 1971. (8147)
