Original 18th-Century stipple engraving of the celebrated contralto. Engraved by Luigi Rados after the portrait by Francesco Scotto. Her name printed with the title "Prima Cantante al servizio di S. M. Re d’Italia." 14.5 x 21.5 cm. Fine.


Gafforini, famous for her portrayal of comic roles, flourished in Italy, Spain and Portugal between 1790 and 1812. Her last recorded performance was at La Scala in 1815. She is celebrated in Stendhal's "Lives of Haydn, Mozart and Metastasio." (7685)
