Signed Photograph with Schubert Quotation

Large original photograph, boldly signed and inscribed on the mount by the German baritone with a quotation from Schubert and dated April 1909. 10.5 x 13 inches and in very fine condition.

Son of conductor Franz Wüllner, he began as a philologist and successful actor in leading German theaters. But he became greatly celebrated as a lieder singer, appearing with such pianist collaborators as Brahms, Strauss, Steinbach, Nikisch, Schnabel, Schillings, Weingartner and Mahler. He sang Elgar's Gerontius in Düsseldorf 1901 and 1902 and at the first performance in London 1903. He toured the United States in 1908 and 1909–10, giving the first perfomance in NY of Mahler's "Kindertotenlieder" under the direction of the composer. (7213)
