Bronze Portrait Medal

Bronze high-relief portrait medal of the legendary Diva, inscribed "Illustrissima Maria Malibran" around the left-facing portrait. Verso with a laurel wreath encircling a blank page with a floating crown above. 80 mm. Signed by the eminent Dutch medalist, "J. Elion," this work having been commissioned by King Willem III. A very rare medal.

Maria Malibran, creator of Donizetti's Maria Stuarda and works by Bellini and Mendelssohn, was one of the most celebrated singers in history, whose early death at the age of 28 contributed to her status as a figure of legend! (7194)
