Autograph Musical Quotation from "Manru."

AMQS from the Polish pianist, composer and statesman who was also prime minister and foreign minister of the Polish Republic (1919). 2 measures boldly written in pencil and identified as "Moderato" from the second Act of his opera "Manru." In fine condition, signed "with every good wish of I. J. Paderewski." 10.7 x 7 cm.

Manru is an opera in three acts composed to the libretto by Alfred Nossig, based on the novel "A Hut Behind the Village" (1843) by Józef Ignacy Kraszewski. First performed in Dresden May 29, 1901, it was followed by the Polish premiere in Lwow on June 8, 1901 and the American premiere at the Metropolitan Opera House on February 14, 1902, with Walter Damrosch conducting. Manru remains to this day the only Polish opera ever presented at The Metropolitan Opera. (6930)
