Heifetz, Jascha. (1901–1987) [Goldberg, Maurice. (1881-1949)]

Original Photograph

Richly toned and atmospheric original doubleweight photograph of the young violinist ca. 1918. 7 x 9 inches. Photographer's studio number stamp 30371 and later Culver Pictures stamps to the verso, lower right corner and edge torn and partially perished (easily matted out of view), otherwise fine.

Maurice Goldberg is widely recognized as the greatest dance photographer of the 1920s and 30s and supplied the photographs for John Martin's NY Times commentaries on the state of dance. He was also George Gershwin's favorite photographer, and his photograph of Gershwin at the piano remains an iconic image in the history of American music. (6705)
