One of a limited unnumbered series of signed copies, signed in ink by both Claudel and Honegger on the verso of the title page. In fine condition, with slight staining along the front cover spine which is also moderately chipped, and including a musical ex-libris plate on the inner front cover.



Originally commissioned by Ida Rubinstein, Honegger's dramatic oratorio with text by Paul Claudel, is widely considered to be one the composer's finest works. It premiered on 12 May 1938 in Basel, with Rubinstein as Jeanne, and Jean Périer in the speaking role of Brother Dominic with the Basel Boys Choir singing the children's chorus part, and Paul Sacher conducting.
