Three Important Autograph Letters
Three interesting autograph letters from the Italian composer, one including an autograph list of Pizzetti's compositions and writings until 1918. All addressed and sold with their original transmissal envelopes to the French music critic and important early supporter of Debussy, Georges Jean-Aubry (1882 - 1950). Florence 1913-18, together 8 1/2 pages. An important source of information on the early work of the influential Italian composer of operas, scenic and radio plays.Florence, 25. Florence, 9. II. 1918. 2 1/2 pp. On printed letterhead of the Cherubini Conservatory where Pizzetti was President from 1917-23. Discussing the revisions Jean-Aubry's article "La Rénovation musicale italienne" and enclosing a detailed list of all of his published and unpublished works until 1918 (1 1/2 pages).

The important Italian composer was part of the "Generation of 1880" along with Respighi and Malipiero, and was a prolific composer of much orchestral and incidental music as well as over a dozen dramatic operas. He succeeded Respighi at the Academy of St. Cecilia in Rome in 1936 and his students included Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Donatoni. Closely associated with the poet/playwright Gabriele D'Annunzio, Pizzetti wrote incidental music to his plays and later an opera based on D'Annunzio's "La Figlia Di Jorio." (6442)
