Impressive and unusal signed Mishkin photograph inscribed by the great opera impressario to his eventual wife, Rosina Galli (1906 - 1969): "N. York 4 Nov.bre 1917 / a Rosina Galli dal suo affino amico / Giulio Gatti Casazza." Inscribed on the mount, contained within the original tri-fold Mishkin photograph folder and in very fine condition. 24 x 38 cm.Galli was Prima ballerina (1914-29) and ballet mistress (1930-34) of the Metropolitan Opera, where she was first the mistress and eventually, the second wife of Gatti-Casazza after his divorce from Frances Alda in 1928.
Gatti-Casazza succeeded his father as manager of the municipal theatre in Ferrara and was manager of La Scala in Milan from 1898 to 1908, before his move to New York City where he was head of the Metropolitan Opera from 1908 to 1935. (5957)
